Meredith+Eyre Ltd was formed in 1956 by Reg Meredith and Arnold Eyre. After a few years of general engineering work on a sub contract basis, a business relationship formed with CompAir, the compressor manufacturer, whereby Meredith+Eyre produced axle and spring sets (running gears) for the CompAir range of portable compressors.
In the early 1970s the company moved from their original factory in Stockport to a new site in Hyde. The factory facility was improved and enlarged over the years, and there are now 3 production bays and 3 large storage bays, amounting to 40,000 square feet of productive space, plus an extensive, fully concreted yard and access.
Later in the 1970s, the company won its first order from Ingersoll Rand, and In the 1980s the company was successful in becoming their sole supplier of portable running gear in all territories except North America.
There have been more than 500,000 running gear sets made for these two international plant manufacturers, and they are a common sight throughout Europe.
In more recent years, the company has further developed its range of component equipment for more general trailer use, both in leisure and industry, plus a growing range of trailers. The current owners, Les & David Meredith, have dedicated their lives to the success of Meredith+Eyre, and the next generation of Meredith’s is already heavily involved in the future of the company.
